VERSACE HAUTE COUTURE AT ITS FINEST

Versace shone like no other fashion brand at this year’s Paris haute couture shows, with a presentation of twenty-six of the most elegant dresses. The Versace show was held at the Paris Ritz, which carried a very personal meaning to Donatella, in view of her brother’s love for the infamous hotel and as the last place she saw him before his assassination. In fact, her brother, Gianni, staged his last runway show there, in 1997, which would explain Atelier Versace couture’s affection towards the location. Severely hit by the financial crisis, the show also marked an opportunity for the label to prove that it still had the power to surmount difficulties and produce fashion of the highest quality.

Evidently, the evening gowns were the highlight of the show, designed in the most delicate as well as expensive materials, following the well-known Versace craftsmanship. Corseted bodices were among the details that characterized the label’s love for sexy and revealing designs. The models, themselves of Barbie-like proportions, carried the dresses down the catwalk with the utmost grace, as they were sensually wrapped in embroidered silk and tiny crystals. Pierce Brosnan, Milla Jovovich, Christina Hendricks and Jessica Alba, among other celebrity profiles, had the pleasure of witnessing them sparkle across the hotel lobby.

Later this month, Christian Dior and Dolce & Gabbana will also be showing their new collections, displaying a rekindled interest for haute couture. Indeed, after the Versace show, it would appear that the princess fantasy has returned, and needless to say, the fashion designers to showcase in successive catwalks have a tough act to follow.
