UNDER THE SEA WITH LOUIS VUITTON
Nautical fashion emerged as the hot upcoming trend for men at the Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2013 menswear show, which took place on the 28th of June, in Paris. Fashion designer Kim Jones chose a sea-life theme for his show, displaying laser underwater images on screens at the entrance of the catwalk and even on it. Each of the outfits created and the appearance of the models, with their hair slicked back to give off a wet-look, were intended to make the audience believe they were admiring sailors, coming home from a long journey at sea.
Indeed, Kim Jones took great care not to neglect a single detail in his creations, fastening fishermen-like knits, sandals made of rope, navy leather jackets, skin-tight scuba pieces, white deck shoes and even wooden buttons. The beauty of each design goes without saying. The highlight of the show was the anchor motif. It is debatable, whether men will be willing to pull off anchor earrings next summer. For the purpose of the show, however, it was a detail worth noting. Neon yellow also emerged as a must-have colour for next summer.
Evidently, Louis Vuitton is known for embracing the travelling lifestyle. The nautical theme follows this, reaching out to the yachting population of the company’s clients. As an ocean girl, I say, what’s not to like?
