LANA DEL REY - THE NEW FACE OF H&M

After blowing the music world away with her 2011 hit album ‘Video Games’, American singer Lana Del Rey is now ready to astonish the fashion world, as the new face of H&M’s autumn/winter ad campaign. During the H&M shoots, Dutch photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin sought to maintain the star’s famous 60s-housewife look.

Sporting a light pink angora sweater, matching leather jeans, chandelier earrings, dark eyeliner and a big hairstyle, à la Brigitte Bardot, Del Rey is portrayed as a classic Hollywood actress or true femme fatale. In fact, Del Rey plans to pay tribute to big-time Hollywood director David Lynch in a video for H&M, produced by Johan Renck, which will be featured on the brand’s website, as of the 19th of September. In the video, Del Rey will interpret an extract of Lynch’s ‘Blue Velvet’. It will, then, serve as a TV commercial. The retro vibe and dark mood characterized in Del Rey’s publicity shoot, not to mention the pastel colour of her outfit, are already arising as key trends next season, adopted by a majority of the top designers, such as Louis Vuitton and Jonathan Saunders.

With the amount of fans screaming Del Rey’s name and the originality of her appearance, it can be predicted that the Swedish fashion house will produce a successful campaign. Having long been fascinated by the 60s, I look forward to checking out what the next season has to offer!
