WOW IN WHITE THIS SUMMER WITH CLOTHING, SHOES AND ACCESSORIES
White is the new black this summer. Cast off your murky greys and dark blacks and embrace the lighter side of life with a white dress. And no, you haven’t gone to a bridal website by mistake: white dresses aren’t just confined to those walking up the aisle anymore; it’s a great way for anyone to spice up their wardrobe. Head to toe white made an appearance on many catwalks this spring, including Louis Vuitton and Dolce and Gabbana, who sent models down the catwalk in applique dresses adorned with sparkle; Vera Wang, who used sharp edges and peplum dresses to make her statement; and Jenny Packham who showed that white lace isn’t just for weddings. The catwalks have shown that while white is great for the bride, it’s also a sexy and sophisticated colour for that stylish guest to wear (though you might want to be careful not to step on anyone’s toes if you wear white to a wedding!).
The best thing about white is its simplicity. There’s a dazzling elegance about a clean cut, no frills white dress, and Wang’s graphic edges showed us that it’s possible to wear white and still have edge. To wow in white, the key is to mix up your fabrics to make sure your outfit is dazzling white, and not a funny shade of pale grey (on that note, don’t forget to wash your whites separately to everything else - a rogue black sock could do all the damage to this look!). Queen of style Angelina Jolie works her whites for a business meeting by mixing stiff cotton suit with a flowing chiffon shirt, while Sarah-Jessica Parker impresses at an awards ceremony in a stiff white crop top and a flowing feathery skirt. To allow your whites to sparkle, keep accessories to a minimum. Nude coloured high heel shoes are the perfect partner to a white dress, or copy Angelina and work monochrome chic with a fabulous black designer handbag (or, if pay-day isn’t that kind then one of our great lookalikes - check out our Black Croc Effect Holdall Handbag With Long Strap And Lock And Key Closure - Sale Was £23.99 - a steal at only £18.99).
So, to wear your whites without being accidentally showered in confetti, it’s all about mixing your fabrics. For a wedding (not your own!), try a white cotton maxi dress paired with black accessories such as our Black Satin Diamante Hard Back Clutch Bag (£12.00) and our Black Peeptoe Block Heels With Bow Design (£10.00), and throw on that cute usher’s black blazer when it gets cold to work the white trend without upstaging the bride! For a night out, stand out against all those LBD’s (Little Black Dresses) in your LWD (Little White Dress). If you’re feeling brave, try a tight fitting white lace dress, or for a look that’ll save your blushes, try a stiff white shift dress.
Accessorise your outfit with more white to make an impact; try our White Leather Effect Stud Embellished Purse With Card Slots, a total bargain for £3.49, and our White Soft Leather Pumps With Velcro Strap (£24.99) are perfect for a comfy walk home at the end of the evening. Or bring some white into the office like Angelina by preordering our Pre-Order Item - White Leather Effect Satchel Handbag In The Style Of Mulberry Alexa for the small price of £23.99.
Wear your whites with pride this season, and with a bit of luck you might just get your own groom! (Just don’t forget the most important thing - white underwear!)
