WHAT IS THE WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE HANDBAG?
What do you imagine the world’s most expensive handbag might look like? I’m thinking hand made, encrusted with diamonds, gold-plated, monogrammed… Well all of these have indeed been used by luxury brands to drive up the price of a bag, but what is actually the worlds most expensive bag might take you by surprise!
Sold at auction not too long ago, a Hermès Birkin bag which was made only in 2014 became most expensive handbag ever sold at auction, costing an incredible £146,000! The bid came in from an anonymous phone bidder at Christie's in Hong Kong. But here’s the most astonishing part - it was Barbie hot pink, crocodile skin, and encrusted in diamonds! Certainly not to everyone’s taste I imagine.
Unbelievably, however, this is still not actually the world's most expensive handbag. The title goes to a bespoke-made Himalayan Nilo crocodile Hermes Birkin bag, made for a private customer for £197,000! The bag encompasses a total of 8.2 carats, crocodile skin rendered creamy white by an intricate hand-dyeing process meant to evoke the Himalayan mountains. The current value of this bag is now worth approximately £98,000 more. The concept of "getting your money's worth" on an “handbag investment” has never been so true!
