MET BALL 2012 - FASHION AND BEAUTY

The Costume Institute Gala otherwise known at the Met Ball has come and gone. The season’s biggest trends were worn by America’s finest as they dazzled in gowns and tuxedos at the biggest fashion event of the year. Beyoncé’s first red carpet appearance since the birth of her daughter certainly didn’t disappoint. Creating headlines, the songstress stepped out in a Givenchy black embellished gown complete with a purple feather train. Diane Kruger and Cate Blanchett were similarly inspired as they were dressed in feathered gowns. Romance isn’t dead as Leighton Meester, Caroline Sieber and Cameron Diaz shone in nude metallics for a soft yet feminine look.

However, although it’s known as the ‘Fashion Oscars’, let’s not forget about the hair and beauty. The stars mainly sported two main looks with either a particular focus on defining the lips and eyes. Camilla Belle, Kate Bosworth and Leighton Meester followed the glamour of the 1920s style with deep scarlet lips, contoured cheeks and simple but bright eyes. Hair was worn as an updo to not draw any attention away from the statement feature. Similarly, retro beauty looks were also popular amongst the stars as Amber Heard and Doutzen Kroes balanced both features to achieve a flawless finish. With bright red lips, winged liner and side-parted waves - it was a timeless and classic look of upmost elegance.

Naturally sun-kissed makeup was well liked as Cameron Diaz, Gisele and Dakota Fanning decided less was definitely more. Soft blush, rose coloured lips and a glowing complexion showed a refreshing and healthy look.

What makeup look was your favourite? Will you be wearing any this season?
