KEY SHOE TRENDS FOR S/S 09
Let’s take a look at this season’s hottest shoe trends as seen all over the major designer runways.
Colours: In terms of colour, nab yourself a pair of neutral heels, the perfect shade to go with just about anything. You’ve probably noticed that shades of tan and beige are all over the high street at the moment.
But if you want to inject some colour, then both pinks and orange tones are also ones to look out for. Red is also a key colour this season which can be worn to spice up an outfit, or even worn casually to get the nautical look nailed - orange and red are both strong colours but easier to pull of this season with the colour blocking trend in full swing! Likewise pink has also become just as prevalent, in hues ranging from bright neon to deep fuchsia and then light blush pink.
Cage and Collar: In terms of designs, ‘cage’ sandals have risen from last season although it seems the trend has not caught onto the limelight just yet. Saying that, ‘collar’ sandals have become more mainstream this season (for those of you who are not sure what an earth I am on about, simply put, a collar sandal is a sandal with a wide collar in place of an ankle strap) a la Kate Moss style. The larger the collar, the harder it is to get the look nailed although Kate Moss seems to always pull it off effortlessly well!
Shoe-Boots: If you love ankle boots then you’ll be pleased to hear that shoe-booties are in! And yes, even in this heat! It started last summer when designers extended the life of boots from winter into summer - open-toes, cut-away sides, or cut-out heels, these shoes will take you into next season with style.
Fringing: Fringing is also a fashion pack must-have. Let alone shoes, the trend has spread onto accessories and clothing as well. For a hint of what’s totally hot, check out our Fringed handbags, as featured in Vogue magazine!
Gladiator: The combination of both wedged heels and platform soles is ever so popular, many following the gladiator shoe trend. We didn’t think it was possible for gladiator sandals to be any bigger than they were in 2008, but 2009 proved this wrong! Heavily strapped heeled versions are flooded, with many now following suit of bright, bold colours.
Floral: Ditsy floral prints have also sprouted this season; floral embroidery, embellishments and prints.
