CANNES FESTIVAL FASHION: DAY ONE
The world’s most prestigious and exclusive film festival has arrived! Of course, I am talking about the Cannes Festival held in France (this year between the 16th - 27th May). It seems Hollywood’s finest set out to impress as starlets dazzled in glamourous gowns and glittering jewels.
The first day of the festival saw the arrival of the world’s favourite stars. Supermodel Eva Herzigova shined in a fitting Dolce & Gabbana gown complete with a gold clutch bag and custom-made Chopard necklace draped with rows of diamonds. Diane Kruger worked spring’s pastel trend in an asymmetric dress; the mint creation by Giambattista Valli had shoulder detailing, a chiffon sleeve and layered bodice. It reworked a girly look into one of utmost femininity and class. Eva Longoria (best known for her work in Desperate Housewives) was in a show-stopping gown for the opening ceremony - a masterpiece by Marchesa. The backless dress was figure-hugging that ended with a pink-petal train. She later stepped out in an Alberta Ferretti piece. With monochrome stripes decorated with a lace motif and sheer panels, it was more of a statement choice compared to the delicate number before.
Ewan McGregor gave a fresh twist to the classic tuxedo. The actor’s modern and youthful approach to a timeless look was achieved with sunglasses, cream brogue shoes and a patterned tie.
